IW In-Depth Review

As an attempt to serve up a curve after complaints about Ghosts, Infinity Ward spent three years working on Infinite Warfare, calling it the biggest change to the series since the first Modern Warfare. When the trailer came out, it was met with instant derision, and for a time was the worst-received video on YouTube. And yet, when the game came out, the reception was largely positive, calling it quite a fine game, and worthy of the COD moniker. And yet, because sales failed to meet the internal targets Activision set for themselves, it was brushed off as a failure, only further cementing the plans for Sledgehammer to come out with WWII.

Yet, IW has nothing really to bitch about. All the usual elements are crafted to their top standard, and space-based combat was given a very believable rendering. For all the complaints that "boots on the ground" was not present, the truth is that it very much is. 2/3 of every main level consists of traversing by foot. (Apparently it doesn't count if the ground is not on Earth). The weapons handle quite as well as their previous counterparts, and seeing the beauty of various parts of the galaxy are one of the best parts of the whole experience. Some may accuse Kit Harrington of hamming it up to much in his performance as Salen Kotch, but I feel that nothing less than what we got was what that character deserved. Maybe there could've been some more background about the SDF and why they resent Earth so much, but other than that, it was as close to perfect as it could be.

At least, IW was made in a way to wrap up the narrative in a single game, so that we aren't left hanging by inevitable decision to move on in a different direction.
