GTX 1650 drops from 80% to 20% usage in Call of Duty — huge lag on ASUS TUF F15 FX506LH

Hey everyone,
I’m having a performance issue with my GTX 1650 (ASUS TUF F15 FX506LH) laptop while playing Call of Duty.

During gameplay, the GPU runs around 70–80% usage, then suddenly drops to 20%, causing severe lag and stuttering.
Interestingly, CSGO runs perfectly, no drops or stutters at all.

Here’s what I’ve already tried:

  • Updated to the latest NVIDIA drivers and Windows version
  • Replaced thermal paste and cleaned fans
  • Using Armoury Crate in Turbo mode
  • Power plan set to Ultimate Performance in Control Center

What could be causing these sudden drops in GPU usage?
Could this be thermal throttling, power limits, driver bugs, or a CPU bottleneck?
Any advice to keep the GPU stable in Call of Duty would be appreciated.

Does this look like your specs??

  • Processor: Intel Core i5-10300H (2.5 GHz, up to 4.5 GHz)
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 or 1650 Ti (4GB GDDR6)
  • RAM: 8GB DDR4 (upgradable to 32GB)
  • Storage: 512GB PCIe 3.0 NVMe M.2 SSD
  • Display: 15.6-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS-level, 144Hz refresh rate
  • Operating System: Windows 11 Home
  • Wireless: Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) + Bluetooth 5.2
  • Ports: 1x HDMI 2.0b, 2x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A, 1x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C (DisplayPort/G-SYNC support), 1x USB 2.0 Type-A, 1x 3.5mm combo audio jack
  • Keyboard: Backlit Chiclet Keyboard (1-zone RGB)
  • Webcam: 720P HD camera
If so then you may be asking too much of the system. CSGO is an older game and probably not a good comparison of what is happening.

I would suggest scaling back some of your settings until you find a happy place!

Good luck!
