Activision is cracking down on third-party hardware cheating in Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. Devices like XIM, Cronus Zen, and ReaSnow S1 have been widely used in Call of Duty to allow mouse and keyboard users to get the benefits of aim assist and reduced recoil from controller mixed with the benefits of movement from mouse and keyboard. Activision has now updated its Ricochet anti-cheat system to detect and eventually suspend or ban players using this third-party hardware.
“These devices act as a passthrough for controllers on PC and console and, when used improperly or maliciously, can provide a player with the ability to gain an unfair gameplay advantage, such as reducing or eliminating recoil,” explains the Richochet team in a blog post today.

The Ricochet anti-cheat system will initially display a warning to players it has detected using this hardware. “Continued improper use of these devices may lead to additional warnings, the deployment of mitigations, account or feature suspensions, or the banning of the offending account across Call of Duty titles, per our Security and Enforcement Policy,” says the Richochet team.

Activision’s crackdown comes just weeks after Ubisoft announced it will start messing with Rainbow Six Siege players that cheat by using XIM or similar devices to spoof controller inputs. Players that cheat in Rainbow Six Siege by using third-party devices will notice more input latency that will mess with their aim. Unplugging the devices will bring the latency back to normal.
Epic Games also started issuing permanent bans to players using Cronus Zen and Cronus Max last year, but cheaters have found ways to bypass Epic’s detection system. Epic Games, Ubisoft, and Activision are now in an ongoing cat-and-mouse game with the developers of this third-party hardware. The hardware is designed to be undetectable, and the gaming industry hasn’t nailed the perfect solution to combat these devices.
Destiny 2 and Overwatch are both suffering from cheaters using these devices, too. “This is something we are currently investigating,” said Bungie to The Verge in February, but the company hasn’t yet announced its own detection system for Destiny 2.

The way that I see it is that there are more than a few people who have nothing better to do with their lives than to show off and show up the hacker piers. It is a rite of passage, a resume of shorts, that proves their "creds" so to speak.

I also feel that all the "Triple A" studios are doing the best that they can do and a cat and mouse strategy is really the only thing that they can do with one major caveat in my opinion. I think, since they say they can detect cronos and similar is to NOT EVEN GIVE A WARNING. If discovered then BANNED. I agree that the ban needs to be more than just the account ban and move it up to hardware banning. All of us know that hackers, cheaters etc are here and always have been so everyone has been warned for years that it will not be tolerated. Stop with the fuzzy wuzzy little warnings and pull out the hammer once and for all.

LOL, I was a bit passionate with my first paragraph up above and this is how it should have been written.

hacking is hacking whatever! it has always happened and will continue to happen i play dmz alot and i dont see a major issue with cheating. and from my 30 years of pc gaming i believe that theres a large percentage of players that are just bad sports and base their self esteem on the game score or k/d ratio and just cant handle someone playing better then them. so you have cheaters, cry babies and normal people all mixed together and thats it and always will be.

With the money that these big studios make why not just simply buy out companies like cronos and fix the devices to not work with games via codes and firmware updates. But then maybe they already own the companies and simply make more money selling the devices.

I think in 10 years we will. have the same discussion. Hackers are always one step ahead.
As long as the hackers pay for the game too Activision is happy.
The game has evolved into a onlineshop with a game atached too it, Activision like that:)

i believe in percentages and think the larger percent is not hacking. like i said im 58 yo and i know for a fact there are alot of young imature gamers out there and they call cheater soon as they are takin out cause they cant stand it. absoslute terrible attitudes and bad sportmanship.

It seems that the ricochet-anti-cheat system ban legit players and not the hackers......LOL.
Thumps up Activision , you did it again.

So here lies the problem, richochet anti cheat sucks and the reporting system is a joke.

Cheats will always be around, I think people need to just accept that, its been going on in every game since online gaming was born. The problem is deciding who is a good player and who is toggling on, your not going to know that unless you play repeatedly against the same player and learn how they play.

What I disagree with is the reporting system, in any of the current COD games, it just plain and simply a load of codswallop! So some kid, who may not be as good as you, gets whooped, he reports you. You go on to the next match, same scenario, kid gets whooped and reports you. Next thing you know your banned. You may not be the best player but you have a couple of good matches against weaker opposition and you end up paying the price with a ban. Its happened to myself in Black Ops gunfight tournament. Now I wouldn't mind but I lost the final to someone who I thought was cheating, and yes I had played against them on numerous occasions.

the non cheaters probably out weight the cheaters by a large percentage so activision is not to concerned. thats my take. with todays technology you would think they could stop cheating. but as long as activision is getting paid i guess no big deal. now i saw where microsoft was going to purchase activision or try to so if that were to happen would microsoft put more energy into anti cheat.

I dont think so because keeping up with the hackers will be money out of the pocket everyday for the company. And that money they cant get from us:)

yeah but they make windows and probably have alot better security measures then activision will ever have so i figure just maybe if it were to happen they would have a leg up on it. one could only hope.
