Looking At Prices For Game and All DLC

The game price is fairly standard. Around $60 USD, but this does not include the DLC that surely will be generated within the year of release. This addition will put the total cost close to $100 USD. I realize that this is not the real issue about whether to buy a game or not, but it does seem a little steep.

My question is this; are ALL games being developed currently expect to have DLC as part of the package?
Are us gamers also expected to pay this additional fee, just to be able to continue to play their game, especially on-line with friends?
Just seems like a lot of money for a single game, albeit with "additional content", but if a gamer choses not to purchase this DLC, they may not be able to play on-line with their friends that have the DLC?

As for the COD series, I have several of them, and I have enjoyed them throughout the years, but the latest one, COD:Ghosts, has never really played at optimum performance, at least for me; I play exclusively on the PC. This makes me hesitant to rush out and purchase this game, but I must confess, it does look like it would be a lot of fun to play.
Just my thoughts.
