Warzone 2.0 Playstation Plus required when I own game?

Can someone help me please?

I've just got a PS4 with MW2 game (previously played on steam). I thought I'd have access to multiplayer (like ground war & invasion) - but I try to open it and it says I need to pay for PlayStation plus to play. Is this right? I thought I'd be able to play multiplayer as I own the game.

You must have PS+ to play most multiplayer games online and if you want to play on PlayStation you must purchase MW2 base game separately for each platform you want to play on even though it is cross play and and cross progression there is NO cross ownership you can still play DMZ/WZ 2 but you still need PS+

Ok thanks for the reply. So for multiplayer (invasion/ground war) on PS4 I need to have purchased both the actual game AND ps plus.

I didn't realise you had to pay for ps plus to play mw multiplayer when you already owned the game but guess I'm learning

Its not just Invasion/ground war, all of multiplayer. The only thing that doesn't require PS Plus is free-to-play games like Fortnite, and Call of Duty Warzone.
