time to move to ddr5 and zen 5 or intel 15th gen

been am4 socket for a long while now and ryzen 5800x3d. now that the new wave is coming im wondering if i should consider upgrading. or maybe wait for the next wave again. i think im probably game proof for a long time still if i dont do anything.

had my asus b550 f gaming mobo for over three years and now out of warranty but still rocking.

so is it worth spending 800 bucks to go from ddr4 to ddr5
I'm not too hard-core, or versed in PC building, but JayTwoCentz released a video talking about cheaper ways of buying motherboards. And he says you can go DDR5, but don't buy them for flashy stuff like RGB. Do it for something else like size and memory. He said you don't need 32GB, or fast memory.

I disagree with his advice: 32 GB assuming you want to game and stream, and/or do intensive editing (like photoshop, da Vinci resolve - video editors).

Speed is for high intensive compute like texture streaming on your PC. THIS part is gonna get worse as we go past Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. I already see the writing on the wall with Modern Warfare II and Modern Warfare III.

yes i saw that video. im going to wait awhile and after watching comparisons on youtube the 5800x3d holds its own with no problem.

The 5800x3d is still a good chip, it sounds like you have a decent build. I will say tho current gen x3d chips have a lot of gains over 1st gen.

If you were to upgrade and the focus is mostly all or mostly gaming defo am5 x3d over intel. I have seen the 9950x3d and other 9000 chips on sale recently.

Also amd is supporting am5 til 2027, so if if you did jump to am5 now it would support for a few more years like am4 did.

am5 support

I have a b650e that supports gen5, so even if you did budget build you could get b650 mobos or x and still have years of support.

also if you switch to am5, the ram speed depends on cpu not mobo, it took me years to get my ram set to cpu limit and not the ram xmp expo settings.

microcenter am5 bundle

that is some nice bundle prices. but i have been watching alot of comparison videos and i think my setup still runs with the best of them. and im seeing it all depends on what games you are playing also so im just sitting back till i see a real performance jump or something i have goes down like my motherboard ive had over 3 years so its out of warranty so if it goes then i would go am5. its been rock solid for me.

also october will be 3 years i have had the 5800x3d and its been rock solid. i dont overclock either. i had a asus rog 4080 oc and sold it on ebay and put 700 in my pocket and spent 550 on the 7800xt and its rock solid so far.

well i dont need to do it but i want to. im looking at the msi x870 tomahawk ryzen 9800x3d mobo comes bundle with 32 gigs of gskill ddr5 and getting a new samsung 980 pro 2 tb ssd for a whopping 910 bucks. i could go cheaper with a 650 board and 7800x3d but if im doing it im doing it big. any feedback appreciated.

i decided to wait another year and see whats up. so im going back to nvidia gpu and got me a msi ventus 3x oc 5070 ti delivering today and gonna sell my 7800xt

I think you made a good choice, the gpu do most of the work anyway. From what i read ddr5 is very fast on paper, but in some gaming tests it seems there is not a big difference between ddr4 and ddr5.
By the way im big nvidia fan:)
