Treyarch proved that their success with COD3 was no fluke when they came out with World At War in 2008. By utilizing the one area of the war that the series had not yet addressed, the Pacific Theater, they were able to put another new spin on the basic original concept. Added to creating the most memorable Soviet campaign of any of the WW2-based titles, it ensured that the end result would be a knockout punch.
Everything about the game was top notch, from the levels, to the characters, gunplay, effects, and physics. Never before had it looked this impressive. Add to that the one thing that no one had expected to come from the game whatsoever: the introduction of the popular Zombies mode. It all added up to an experience that no one was going to forget or ignore whatsoever.
A decade later, this game still impresses, and it represented that Treyarch had officially arrived on the scene. What more could one ask for?
