PC Info about multiplayer:)

I'm new and i would ask info about the multiplayer of old Cod like (Cod5;MW2,3; Bo1) which I have never played and now I would like to buy on steam to play in multiplayer.

Here, looking at these data it seems that there are still many players:

Are those data right or will I find empty servers?

Most PC games can connect to players' own servers, and some connect to Activision's servers (for example: MW3, BO2, BO3, Advanced Warfare, and last year's game - Infinite Warfare).

Other than that, the console versions connect to Activision's servers. Some are closed, and some are lacking in players count, thanks to hackers.

But for example the games (like mw3) which connect to activison's servers in a future when activision will shut down the servers ( i don't know if It can happen as on consoles) is possible continue with the players servers like for other cod that you did not mention (mw2, bo1,COD4,5 ) ?

Some of them have player servers, sooo... it's possible. For example, MW3 was using GameServers.com servers. (I think...? I'd have to double check.)

MW3's GameServers were rentable, which is why I brought it up. So, if you wanted to play MW3, you could rent your own server.

The question is not so much "is this game populated?" Of course, it is. The problem is, you have to look out for hacked servers, most games like COD4 has a cult following, that you'd find hackers in there anyway... I'd be careful if I were you.

It's not that dangerous, but I'm just saying keep in mind that there are hacked servers, and you can be suspectible to players hacking the server, glitching in the server, or cheating in the server. It's just that it will make gameplay not fun. For example, in COD4, if you're in a hacked server, you might come across a way to see through walls, and the worst part is, YOU'RE not intending to play it that way. You want to play the game as it was designed. That's what I meant.

Steam is a store, not a platform, like Xbox Live or PlayStation Network. You connect to a person's server, and not steam's. You use an ID to enter these servers, nothing more, nothing less. Some games have anti-cheat, but even that's crackable. So, I wouldn't rely on steam to "protect" you. "Banned players" on steam is not really banned, as it would be on Xbox Live or PSN, they're more like filtered out. So, if you get banned on one server, you can't enter that kind of server.

PC's are pretty open, your IP address/computer is pretty visible to the person with the tools to hack, so that's why I said to be very careful in there.

Windows 10 is still system 32 powered. Until Microsoft removes system32 completely, you're free to play most steam games.

Yes i remember some time in COD4 that some time wos possible see through walls,I played cod4 on servers that were good for the cracked version ,I played on PC until 2011, but I remember that only in some cases it happened but most of the servers wos fine
In some server there were rules, for example no martyrdom and clearly no cheating tricks were allowed,Otherwise the owner betrayed you...i also remember some time there were match with only shutgun or knife, sniper...good times ...When the pc broke and I went to a ps3 unfortunately these things could not be done anymore

Those "rules" are sometimes part of the player options, but the other 50% of the time it's a cheat server. I'm a PS4 player that understands a lot of what goes on. My PS3 was hacked, and I still have my Modern Warfare 2 copy stuck in there. lol. Just because I pissed off a wannabe hacker. But it was a kid with the tools to brick my system enough from one connection. This is why I hate the community, but I love the Call of Duty brand because it either brings out competitive players, or stupid people like this.

Both, yes. And that's the problem, though. The administrator can do just about anything, including breaking their own rules. So, you can go into a server, and the administrator can hack you, cheat, or do other stupid shit in there. That's why I am afraid of PC gaming, because a lot of abuse can be done in there. You can't tell which one is a hacked server just from a list, you have to either know what to look for, or trust the administrator.

The idea is Microsoft wants to dominate the PC gaming space enough to drive more players to the Windows Store, and buy shit from there, rather than Steam. So, one day, Microsoft will decide to pull the trigger and make it difficult for steam players to use Windows 10 or vice versa.
