Yeah both Spec Ops and Extinction were definitely best played with friends or random people that would communicate and work together with you. Agreeing with Carlos, holds true on Spec Ops more, but it is fair to say about Extinction too. It is hard to get into another game mode if no one plays it that you play with. Which is why zombies holds so strongly on being the best special game mode. Everyone seemed to be able to get into it and have fun.
I don't like zombies games or modes in general. I mean, don't get me wrong, I like games and modes that use zombies as a "enemy," but it does tend to get boring after a while. I liked both WAW's and BO2's version of zombies game/mode. I feel like Call of Duty is the only franchise that got the whole zombies thing right.
I like Dead Island, but most of the zombie games out there are either ridiculous or stupid. Resident Evil & Half Life series or similar series that take zombies seriously are acceptable to me.
Anyway, I agree that, out of the three game modes that's been introduced to Call of Duty - the Zombies mode is the best of them all. I can get into it, play it, and continue where I left off if another player dies or leaves. But when they
don't leave there are two types of players, those who really wants to play, or progress to the next level. Trolls and troublemakers are pretty rare because the mode is a bit "closed."
The Aliens mode was a great idea, but the mode feels like a lazy slap-on to appease zombie fans and bring a refreshing experience for a special mode. Instead we got a half-assed aliens mode. Who's idea was it to make it seem like Aliens has been alive and kicking on earth for a while now? I would have liked to explore the world, have aliens come out of the woodwork, and then see spaceships coming down and seeing an intimidating alien. To keep the suspense, ya know? When the first leaks came out, I got the feeling that the mode was going to be inspired somewhat by Aliens (the films), and Predator. In fact, I got the Predator vibe from the leaked achievements. I was ready to dive into the mode. I was disappointed to see that the Aliens we're fighting against are baby aliens, and these matured aliens.
I don't mind these magic powers, but fuck... surely they could've come up with a better Aliens campaign. Surely.
When the DLC's came out, all I could think was: "Why didn't you put
THOSE in the fucking
DISC!?" Basically, you're saying, you want
ME to pay an extra $50
just to get the whole story? Man fuck you.
The Spec Ops in MW3 has it's pros, and cons. What I liked about it is the challenge level gets cranked up every time, my big problem with it is the player participation. There was not really a co-op experience; It was more like "you do this, get the fuck out of my way, and I do my thang." I'm sorry, but that's how I feel about it. I felt like the co-op mode they tried to accomplish was bland, empty, and more bullshit.
The balancing problems in Spec Ops were minor, but noticeable. Extinction was a little better with regard to balancing.
