It wasn't too big, a few gig maybe. The major change was you can't use just any avatar now, it's back to just Vanguard avatars. I don't have any solid evidence, but it appears that there are less jeeps scattered around and the dynamics were changed on the jeeps (a good thing - they were too fast and to responsive to the controls). The money supply didn't seem to change, but the XP did. I use to be able to get 30K+ in points (record high was 68K) and had one game yesterday with just 10K - I was never that low even at the very beginning of Plunder.

Jeeze.. Ya really got to wonder what's going thru the minds of Activision.. It's almost as if they WANT to torch COD/WARZONE.. :(

I should be having my 11th GEN system up and running today...

But from all reports... Looks like I am not going to have much to come back to, COD wise... :^/

I've been following you build project, but have commented on it. How does it compare to an AMD FX-8370? I'm running an older ASUS gaming MB so the memory is still DDR3 - lots of it (32G), but slower than DDR4. I've been thinking about an upgrade, but still like the AMD CPUs. The FX-9590 tops out at 5Ghz. By over-clocking the FX-8370, I get about 4.5Ghz so still pretty close to the newer processors.

I was in IT for the past 30 years and Intel and AMD always went back and forth in performance specs. I got tired of playing their game and spending WAY too much money on upgrades so I picked one and stuck with it. Right now Intel is the top five CPUs. Next year... who knows.

I welcome all inputs and may bite the bullet and upgrade. I need a new media server, so my existing gaming PC would still serve some usefulness. :)

OMG Plunder is so confusing any more. Again, another update (no downloads required, just a change in game play). Jeeps are out and modern weapons are back in. Cash drops are working again. We can use any of the Avatars that are unlocked. And now they have nuclear bombs being dropped on occasion. Is this game being managed by a not-so-trained bunch of monkeys??????

Did you know that AMD were formed under presidential decree as it was feared that Intel would be unable to meet the growing demand in semiconductors on their own?

My recollection of events is as follows (I'm going by memory here, the following has not been fact checked).

Early AMD chips were in fact clones of Intel processors that were made under a licensing agreement. AMD had enough engineering expertise to be able to innovate upon the original designs to produce CPUs that outperformed the original Intel designs up until the 386 or maybe 486 processors at which time AMD started selling their own CPUs.

Intel led the way from the x86s right up to the Pentium era but AMD got back on top with their early 64 bit and dual core designs.

Then AMD struggled for quite some time and then brought out the FX series of processors in an attempt to win back the crown after the launch of the Intel Q series CPUs and then the Core i series. Bulldozer was not competitive enough with Intel and the backlash at AMD led Lisa Su to being promoted to Interim CEO in 2014 and shortly after that Intel also got a new CEO.

AMD worked hard at innovating once again, while Intel went through some years of cost cutting and they stopped going through their traditional tick-tock cycle. During this time AMD strengthened their designs and built upon their success in the console space with the Ryzen series.

Intel replaced their bean counting CEO with Pat Gelsinger who has started working on engineering again and not continuing to reduce expenditure. After about 5 or 6 years of not being competitive enough Intel brought out the 12th gen models and AMD have the Ryzen 7 5800X3D on the plus a new socket with a new line up of parts coming soon.

Things are going to get a whole lot more interesting in the next 12-18 months. Intel pricing has been coming down so now we're no longer looking at the 20% more money to gain 3% better gaming performance situation that we've had up until now.

So to answer the question AMD or Intel at the moment, I think the time is not right for either.

AMD are coming to the end of the development line for their current AM4 socket designs and have a new socket on the way. It's a good time to upgrade from an older AM4 CPU to a 5000 series but not to build a new system.

Intel has just brought in DDR5 and it is too early to buy into a new standard until it has had a generation or two to mature.

If you have to build right now though, then either case would be good, aim at 5000 series Ryzen 5 or 11th/12th gen Intel, I am hoping to upgrade to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D that I expect to run for 4 to 5 years. You should also get at least that much time from an Intel build as well.

Start with your budget and create a part list from each camp then decide based on the best bang for your dollar.

Very good, KBD. Good advise about planning for potential updates. I'm retired, so the government tells me I have to take a certain amount out of an annuity I have each year - there's my budget. The amount taken out increases each year so that by the time you're 90, you have no money left in it. Thank you IRS.

Love the history lesson, KBD!! :D

This is why you are the undisputed Tech Guru of COD Forums..

Now, pardon me while I rub this brown stuff off my nose.. :D
It's not easy trying to compress 50 years of history into a few paragraphs, but I think I have the essence right, though I was hoping someone would enjoy it, though I consider myself to be an enthusiast, I don't think of myself as a guru.

Glad it has helped you.

If you post a budget I will try and put together a couple of different builds to show what you might be able to get within your means, also post what accessories you have, such as keyboards, mice, and monitors. I'd hate to find I put together an amazing PC to then learn you have no monitor to see how well it works.

Wow... the full whack on the PC? That's going to be an awesome build!

I can't do it straight away, I have a lot going on this weekend, but hope to put something together for you soon.

What resolution do you want to play at, I would suggest 2560x1440 and if you don't have a 27" monitor, now is the time to get one. Also, do you like something with RGB lighting or not?

Post features that are important to you before I start.

Right now I have a Dell 27" running at 1920x1080 (1080p) running at 144 Hz on a nVIDIA 1060. Pretty old stuff - built the rig back when I was working and spending money as fast as I could make it. I have an Acer Aspire V17 Nitro (Black Edition) that I run some games on and it surprisingly runs COD pretty good - not great, but pretty good when camping.

I still dabble in Linux and VMware and run multiple VMs on the desktop and on the Acer. Basically just looking for an upgrade that will kick-ass on COD. I really appreciate your input, but no rush on any of this. Gotta come up with a reason for the wife instead of buying a new RV. So far we've bought 3 in the last 3 years. Enough is enough!
