With the majority of Call of Duty titles in the past being based on real world situations, World War II in Call of Duty 2, along with modern settings in the Modern Warfare series, what are your feelings on the game basically becoming a CoD meets Titanfall meets Halo combination? Me being friends with someone who likes his shooters to be realistic, this has pissed him off greatly and he is now a hardcore Battlefield fan. Does the unrealistic weapons and vehicles that the series has decided to go with bother anyone else?

Well, a lot of the technology isn't really that crazy or really made-up. Scientists continue to make improvements on a "cloaking" device that uses microwaves or something to bend light and blah, blah, blah, science stuff. Exo-suits are currently in development for various applications. So I wouldn't call these things unrealistic, just potential future technologies that are being attempted now (some but not all of them).

I'm actually quite fond of the change. The games were starting to feel quite repetitive to me and I hope that this new setting will spark some life back into the series. I know many of my friends quit playing because ''each game was the same again'', which I don't fully agree with but still, this might get some old players back into the series. I've always been a fan of the more futuristic games too so I'm hella excited.

I'm glad in the direction they're going. COD was/is becoming very stale and I'm hoping this game is going to change that up a bit.

I agree for the most part, but by now I feel it isn't really that much different than Titanfall or other sci-fi shooters out there. I don't know, we'll have to wait and see.

Isn't much different than Titanfall? Have you played Titanfall? I don't mean to sound rude but the wall-running/titan/minion gameplay is something completely different.

I have indeed. And I'm not alone on the opinion that Call of Duty is very similar to Titanfall in visuals and certain gameplay elements. Yes, it may not have titans or minions, but with elements like boosts jumps, exo abilities, and whatnot, it does draw a few parallels very soon after the launch of Titanfall.

This doesn't mean I'm not excited for the game, heck no. I'm just concerned that the game has gone too far off from what made it great, a military shooter with realistic aesthetics.

The weapons and equipment isn't actually unrealistic. yes some things are but its based off of things that are not far off in the military.

Call Of Duty was bashed by a lot of people who kept saying it is the same each year, and now when things change people cry about it and want the old cod back, whilst not even playing AW. This really gets me angry in many ways. You just cant please people these days.

I agree. I think the exo suit speeds up the pace compared to other Call of Duty games, but Titanfall's mechanics made it an even more fast-paced experience. Titans are much different than the mech suit killstreak as far as gameplay is concerned, since you won't see 12 mech suits on the field at once. The minions/spectres added another differentiating bit to the gameplay.

I loved Titanfall, but Advanced Warfare doesn't seem like a similar game besides the double jump (a function of an exo suit and not boosters simply worn on the body) and the future setting. I don't consider the mechs and Titans related because of how different they are in importance to their respective games. There are plenty of subtle differences at play between these games.

I hope they can recover from the mess that was created from Ghost. I returned Ghost after I prestiged. I feel like Ghost was too rushed. I hope they recover from their mistake in Advanced Warfare especially since I love the Warfare series more.

I like the overall direction they have taken with the game a lot. Basing a game off real battles and real warfare will get stale after a very short period of time. Your friend has to understand that at least. Playing with real world weapons would get boring after awhile and there would be no more COD at all to play because people wouldn't buy the game. You can't please everyone though.

Even if we like it or not, Activision is gonna keep pressuring the developer teams to make more futuristic games, so they can compete with games like Halo. Even though I'd like another WW2 shooter, I accept this change, and I kinda like the futuristic theme the Call of Duty games had for a while, so I'm good.

I don't really think they're doing it to compete with the likes of Halo but rather to not lose any more players who don't want to play the same game again. If you're going to be competing with Halo then I don't think looking like Halo is the right approach because if CoD becomes a worse game than Halo then nobody has any reason to get it anymore.

I'm very happy with the direction they've taken with Advanced Warfare. Ghosts was a bad game and Black Ops was getting a bit too repetitive, so I'm glad they've actually brought a lot of new elements to the game, especially the new guns and kill streak system. Black Ops 2 seriously lacked any interesting new weapons considering it was set in the future, so I'm happy that they've brought proper future weapons and not just updated guns from the present.

I am not new to the game, but certainly not a crazy tactic following non sleeping caffeine addicted player...I just can't get into it with having a family to look after, so I can't keep up with those glued to the game when it comes to ranks and such.

I think the question can go two ways, do I like what COD itself as a game has become? Yes, the graphics and entertainment are awesome. Do I like the mentality that some of the players have taken on? No, but this isn't the games fault, I blame that on poor social skills and a population that is losing its touch on reality.

I feel like they need to stay away from trying to make the game futuristic. I feel like Ghost was a very terrible example on what should have not been done.

I think the problem with the community is that we have all grown up since the older releases but there are still continuously new kids coming to play the game. The younger you are the less social skills you have and I believe the older we get the more it will annoy us. I don't really think the community, in online games in general, has changed all that much but it's just the way we look at it that has changed. Thinking back I'd say I was a pretty toxic personality when I just started playing but right now I'm almost the exact opposite. It's just an age think IMO.

I read something somewhere that talked about the rise in sci-fi themed shooters in game. It explained that the previous gen saw fewer of these types of games because the hardware wasn't there to properly support the details to do them properly. Now with the additional power the XB1 and PS4 provide, we are going to see a shift towards more advanced, futuristic games.

Maybe I'm old fashioned. Now, everything seems to be about hype and hate. Attention grabbing headlines and people complaining about not getting support on PC. Arguments over which system is better or why this many P is better than that many P. I don't care about any of this. Folks are welcome to argue about that...but my first game was The Legend of Zelda. I didn't have any of these distractions....so I'm focused on two things and two things only:

How's the story? How's the gameplay?

Thus far? They've sold me that the story is going to be solid. And I've watched enough gameplay video now to be crazy excited for this game. Seems like AW is some of the old and some of the new. The CoD I like playing....lightly mixed with some Titanfall, Halo...even some Diablo 3.

So, yeah, I like what CoD has become. I appreciate that they're still trying to innovate and improve (even if they don't always hit the mark.)

I think the problem isn't that you're old fashioned or anything. I think it's just that a large part of the playerbase has played each of the games and barely noticed a difference in gameplay so there has never really been a reason to talk about it. This will lead to having the need for other conversation topics, which apparantly have become ''which platform is better''. I'd have to agree with you though, this CoD is looking to bring us some epic new gameplay things and that should be what is discussed on the internet!
