Gauging The Critic Response to Advanced Warfare

Over the years, Call of Duty titles have been reviewed very well by critics. Some might even say that reviewers have been a little too glowing of their reviews of each game. While I think that's a reflection of how solid CoD games tend to be (although sometimes stale), I'm wondering how critics will treat Advanced Warfare. Are they going to judge it like every other CoD game? Or will they judge it on how well it modifies the CoD formula?

I'm thinking critics are going to consider AW the best title since Black Ops, or possibly even MW2 if it surpasses expectations.

I think most critics try to not compare the new games to the old games too much. Most of the flak that the games get (yes there are exceptions) is that the games look too much like the older ones, at least from the people I've talked to. The problem with that is that the game is still good but just the same like the last one. Now does that make it a bad game? I don't think so. For new players the games are most likely amazing so there is honestly no real problem with the games. I think it will be the same case for Advanced Warfare unless they manage to completely screw up the new setting.

I think it's pretty obvious that game reviewers will give Advanced Warfare very high marks. The recent news events showing just how many perks publishers give to reviewers in return for good reviews make the likelihood that Advanced Warfare gets great scores very high. However there are some reviewers, for example Totalbiscuit, who are less likely to succumb to the perks publishers send out and generally tend to stay quite honest of their reviews. For me though I prefer watching gameplay over reviews, they tend to show me in better detail over how good the game actually is, compared to the quick flashes of gameplay in most review videos.

I generally don't listen to critics. If I did, I would have missed out on some awesome games.

Usually, if i'm on the fence about a game, i will just not get it and see how it plays out. generally the community can give you a good sense of the quality of the game. You just have to understand that there will be negativity among any community of people who want a 40hr campaign along with an in depth multiplayer, perfect latency, and a $40 price tag.

If you can sort through that you can get a much better feel for the game than any critical review.
