Virtual Reality

I remember hearing back about a month ago about a newer virtual reality system called Ocular Rift. I know that Gabe Newell was really excited for it, and that it was pretty much near the end of it's production phase, so hopefully soon it's going to become a reality.

Any comments on it? Personally I think it'll make CoD a whole lot more fun. :)

I think it's just a gimmick. I don't want to play a video game in a 270 degree depth of field, I want to play it on my living room screen. It's a great advancement, but I just don't think a transition to it will be smooth. I'm more interested to when it gets to a point of video games are controller with devices from the movie "Gamer".

Yeah I much rather play on my TV screen as well. Seems a little too much for me to play a CoD game with it. I feel like my neck would get sore from all the quick turning lol

I think it's awesome. By the way it's Oculus Rift, not Ocular. They will probably make an option so you can turn using the devices tracking ability and that you can still play your favorite action games like Call of Duty. The version where you turn your head would be better for things where it's not so fast paced. I feel like they know what they're doing over at Oculus and I don't doubt that it will revolutionize the world of gaming. When you wear the head piece the world that you once knew disappears. You're no longer looking at a screen, you're basically inside the world of the game. I can't wait for the mass release.

The Oculus Rift has so much potential, and despite all the criticism I am actually excited for it. You would still be able to play normally with a controller, but instead of a TV you have a full 270 degrees set. Imagine how much immersion it would add to the game...

Seems like an interesting idea. Does anybody know if this tracks your eye movements? I have watched a few videos and I didn't quite catch it. When I play on the TV, I'm not turning my head in any direction to see as if my eyeballs couldn't move (like an owl), My head is fixed and my eyes move....not sure if that will happen with this device...but if they could perfect it, it looks pretty cool.

My mistake, I haven't read or heard of the name in a while. I do think they have some way to deal with whiplash and fast paced games though. I'm sure they have had trials runs with different genres of games and on the more action oriented ones they've devised some kind of system to make it so that you're not spinning your head around your shoulders every other second.

I do not know if I am going to go right out and buy this VR machine. It sounds exciting, but I am not sure it is going to be something I will like.

Virtual Reality games would prevent a lot of people from leaving the house! You think we're obsessed now! Wait till VR Gaming actually hits the market!

Until we get to the point when we can get fully into the game, as in, be the character and run, jump shoot, everything, then I find VR just an ok thing but not utterly impressive.

I don't, however, criticize the people that do work with it, most recently the guys behind Occulus Rift, I think they're giving a nice contribution to VR's continuous evolution! It's just not there yet.

Virtual reality is a new technology that is used in gaming nowadays...it brings an awesome impression to the particular game. The game look more attractive and more real.

This is the first time I hear about it. I looked it up and it looked awesome! I watched some TF2 and hawken gameplay and reactions. It looked and sounded amazing. I think this might very well be the future of gaming. I will definitely get the consumer version once it gets released. Looks just stunning.

Oculus Rift technology is absolutely amazing. I've had the opportunity to try it out and...wow, it's amazing. Feels like you're there!

This type of technology isn't realistic in today's standards. You can't expect for gamers to all of sudden neglect the good old tv and put money into this. This seems more like a gimmick that looks great but won't go anywhere.

The thing we thought was never possible, is becoming possible. It's getting closer and closer every day. I find it as a great advancement in technology and gaming experience, but there are obviously bad sides related to that. I say let's see how it works for a few years.
