Xbox Live COD Ghosts lag

Hi, I live in Taiwan. I love playing call of duty. But, the problem is that I am always lagging every game. It's not the frame rate kind of lag. It's the lag where I am a few seconds behind everyone else. Taiwan is pretty far away from the States where most people play. My download speed is about 80 and my upload is about 3. I am still lagging a bunch though. Does anyone know any ways how I can prevent this kind of lag? I am getting very frustrated because this causes me to die a lot! Please help me! THANK YOU!

1. Better ISP (and not one of those cheap plans; get one that goes above 3MBPS)
2. Better Router (preferably one that locks down to just you and the people you "trust" look for WPA/WP2 standards)

Basically, you need bigger download/upload packet.

1. My ISP is pretty good though. Is the lag from the download speed or the upload speed?
2. I have a router that only I use.

What do you mean that I need a bigger packet?

What's your latencey (ping) like? If it's anything over 100ms then that's why you're lagging. It also could be that there's not many people playing around your area and it's connecting with someone that's far away from you.

The lag is from various sources, which is why I mentioned download/upload - pretty much because that's how your internet recieves (download) and sends (upload). The higher it is, the better your game performs.

I play Call of Duty games with these download/uploads:

From where I live to San Francisco (Bay Area)

[FYI, this is just an average here. It's not like this all the time.]

From where I live, to Hawaii (Close to your proximity)

This is coming from a cable line, a basic one, at that... My point is; you need a powerful line to handle all of the multiplayer connection(s) and traffic.
What do you mean that I need a bigger packet?
Packet means how much data is being sent back and forth. Without the packet, the information isn't going anywhere, it's just lost.
2. I have a router that only I use.
Then get a better one.

This is my internet speed. upload_2014-4-23_6-34-12.png

It's pretty fast though right? I do use a fast ethernet cable from my router to my xbox. I don't know what it's called but it's a red ethernet cable. I'm not sure what the speed I play cod on. This is just my speed I tested on my laptop.

How do I get a bigger packet?

Any recommendations? for a good router?

But, because I'm in Taiwan, and the host can be in the States. That's why it lags right? I'm far away from the host. Or does it mean that I will get no lag when I have bigger download and upload speed?

Hey there are you playing on xbox 360, playstation 3, xbox one, or playstation 4? It's important to know because the newer systems (xbox one and ps4) require a higher speed connection for obvious and questionable reasons.

76.23 mb/s is fast enough, a lot faster than you need. If your router is having trouble with signal or maybe packet loss could be happening over wireless that could really slow down your connection a lot. Do you play by wireless or wired? I would recommend if you play wireless try directly connecting your console to your router and see if that improves connection.

And again someone else already mentioned this, but if there isn't enough people playing in Taiwan then matchmaking will find players in other countries, and this can be a huge problem because there isn't much you can do if there aren't enough players in your country to create game lobbies. Even the fastest connection cannot handle long distances.

Sorry for the long post hope this helps. I know the frustration I have had problems with lag and I know a lot of people in the military that move to other countries and experience the same thing.

Yeah, @TheCaptAlpaca that's more than enough Download/Upload. I now think it's your router. I use wireless with my own router when playing PS3 games online.

@Atlas of Karma I respectfully agree with your opinion, except for the "even the fastest connection cannot handle long distances" you're right, it can't handle long distances... However, Xbox 360 (and maybe Xbox One) don't have the same "listen" servers as PS3 (and maybe PS4) to be able to "communicate" with local players. There's a huge architecture difference between console brands.

Hi... I play on the xbox one. I play wired.

should I go get a new router? an recommendations on which router? Should I try to port forward?

Port Forwarding wouldn't hurt. Any router that can handle speeds above yours should be good enough. If the lag still persists, I would contact your ISP and have them come check out your stuff.

then i'm pretty sure it's just the distance.
I live in a small town area, I should have at least several hundred players around me... but I have a few players here.

The next few miles from me is two large cities. So, whatever you're saying - I don't believe it.

What do you mean you don't believe it? I live super far away from everyone else. You have a lot of players around you.

check out this: this is what my test on the xbox one says. The speed is pretty good. But note the download and upload packet loss. They are both 0%.photo1.jpg

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Taiwan in close proximity to Japan? China?

Yeah, I have hundreds of players "around" me because of the neighboring cities, but I don't expect to have perfect connection because these players are miles away from me. The same is true for you, since you're close to the busiest WiFi/local players. You know what I mean.

Another factor could be that Xbox One isn't popular in your area or neighboring countries/cities.

Yeah your latencey is a little high there. That's probably one reason why.
what's latency?

true...but most people are in America. There aren't THAT many Asians players always online.

I have terribly high latency on xbox one too, I live in a state (MN) with a lot of COD players and even though the xbox one still isn't as popular as xbox 360 there are enough players where my latency shouldn't be so high. Btw my latency is somewhere around 100-200 at any given time too. I rarely play COD on it, mostly Titanfall.
