Hi All,

I need help with a project that I am currently doing on the Call of Duty . I am a PhD student based at Newcastle University (UK) examining how player’s engage with Call of Duty series. Most academic research has been highly critical of these types of games as they suggest that they sanitize and glorify military violence. However, little research has considered the actual players of these games and their attitudes to the political and militaristic content.

I am interested in speaking to players of any experience to discuss three themes.

1) Players background into gaming
2) Players attitudes to the political and militaristic content
3) Players experiences and emotions while playing these games.

I plan to do interviews through online play, or through email or whatever is easiest. It will be highly informal and last approximately 45mins-1hour.

I am currently conducting research for my Master’s thesis, titled Government-Influenced Video Gaming and Propensity to Join the United States Military. I am currently seeking interviewees for this project who have played popular military-themed video games, namely Call of Duty. While the interview is uncompensated, your insight would be invaluable to this study, and would help research regarding questions of military portrayal in entertainment media.

The interview will be completely voluntary and confidential and will approximately last an hour and will be conducted via Zoom. Audio will be recorded and transcribed by Zoom.
