My Take on Modern Warfare vs. Cold War (Multiplayer Only)

I love CoD multiplayer. It always been one of my favorite pass-time activities and for the last two years, due to the COVID-19 situation and all, I've had the opportunity to play MW multi so much so that I got Damascus and I got really into the competitive scene. I was obviously extremely excited for the release of Cold War and now that were a few weeks into the new game I figured it'd be a good time to make a very general comparison to MW.

MW Pros:

  • Gun variety
  • Attachment variety
  • Graphics, acoustics and animations
  • Accurate gun graphics and description to real life
MW Cons:

  • Toxic camo challenges
  • Boring and slow paced maps
  • Gun balancing
  • Underwhelming perks
CW Pros:

  • Maps
  • Game pace
  • Prestige system
  • Exciting perks & wildcards
CW Cons:

  • Broken scorestreak system
  • Ancient-looking graphics & animations
  • Disproportionate amount of points for going on streaks rather than playing the objective
To be perfectly honest, I cant say for sure whether I hated the MW minimap or found it interesting. It definitely allowed for more diverse attachments (not just suppressors) and discouraged senseless aggression, but it also slowed the game down considerably and allowed campers to flourish. Also SBMM seams to be ramped up a lot in CW but I cant really blame Treyarch for that.

By the end of the MW season the hate for it had accumulated to such a high degree that Cold War would have been such an obvious improvement. Overall, I'd say I'm enjoying CW quite a bit, but I'm definitely starting to rethink all the hate MW multi received.

Please share your thoughts and opinions - I'd love to know!

Wow, you are being very very generous on Cold War.

And I personally disagree with every contra point you have made about modern warfare, especially because no one forces you to make camo challenges, and the other 3 points aren't true in my experience. The guns are balanced, they differ a lot but they can all compete once you get around it, the perks are doing their job, not sure how they can under-perform, they are what they are and do what they do and the maps aren't boring or slow paced at all, especially not if you play the actual game instead of this silly Warzone mode that has absolutely nothing to do with Call of Duty or what I know as Call of Duty. I mean pretty rich to complain about the maps while CW only has to offer like 6? maps, the joke of the year.

Don't get me wrong, you can enjoy and like or dislike whatever you want, it's just very new for me to see someone talk so generous about Cod Cold War, especially since I have dropped the game and went back to modern warfare completely, I feel with every match how amazing MW is and how superior it is to CW in every single aspect. CW feels empty, over simplified, unfinished and somehow soulless/empty.

When I log in to MW I feel the active and motivated community, so much to see, such nice graphics, huge choice of weapons that never seem to get boring and developers that really take care of the game with every update, it's just a nice game that is designed for longevity really.

CW on the other hand.... I would bite my hand off for wasting so much money on a game that could not even compete with Black Ops 1, it's the biggest disappointment I have ever experience during the entire Call of Duty game series (and I play since CoD 1) right after CoD: Ghosts which I think had one if not the biggest rate of refunds ever made as most PC gamers could not even install the game or make it work.

Last but not least, I don't know what hate you mean? No one hated the new MW, maybe some people, but overall it has a huge playerbase and is even still growing from what I know. Only people hating in MW are people such as me who dislike the forced feminism/equality and agendas being pushed in to the game, something I dislike in every game and will always openly admit as where I live this is actually allowed.

Hope you don't take any offense in my post and me disagreeing with some of your points. Everyone thinks differently, at least you can play CW without being frustrated. lol

Yeah I've been going back and forth since making this post and you made some good points.

Look, I've been playing CoD for a long time and I am pretty sure that MP Maps in MW are amongst the worst. Maybe they're not horrible, but none are specifically great, except Oil Rig IMO, which came out way too late. The maps werent open enough, I little too campy and didnt have great flow imo. The gun balancing is the worst tbh. Until the last season of MW came out, it was virtually impossible to use random guns and do well. But now that I think of it, that probably has more to do with SBMM than the guns.

CW its buggy af. But I really do feel like it has solid fundamentals like a healthy TTK, solid, albeit few, maps, plenty of viable guns. The only fundemental issue I see in CW is the scorestreak sysem, which is so flawed in so many ways that its ruining tight objective games. But I have to say, I do miss the MW polish every now and then and I go back and play it from time to time - I just really dont like the maps. While youre right about the camp challenges being a conscious decision to undertake, IW shouldve definitely understood that a large chunk of the playerbase will be grinding camos, which will undeniably affect the common game.

I'm into competitive CoD so ive been exposed to a lot of hate towards MW

I don't know what competitive means, like in a clan or earning money and prices by playing competitions?

Because I mostly end up #1 when playing and I can manage this with all weapons in-game except for sniper rifles and marksman rifles. ( even if I play pistol only against others ). So for me the guns are perfect.

Never heard of any hate against MW really, only at the beginning when the game had some bugs... and people ALWAYS moan about things not being balanced in every single game I know, this is a " new " trend that is going on with especially younger players that try to find an excuse for their lack of skill.

I honestly hope dearly that CW will turn in to an amazing game, but currently I don't believe in it nor can see it.

I play CoD since CoD 1 as well and enjoyed the old CODs a lot, one that really stuck in my mind was Black Ops 1 and MW 1 as well as Call of Duty: World at War ( my personal favourite ).

I liked these games not only for their content but also because they were free of all this equality, political correctness agenda bullshit. They were just shooters based on some war theatre with men fighting each other, not this garbage that is produced and injected today in almost every game. Laughable.

I mean professional CoD, the CoD League.

No way! WaW is my favorite CoD too! Man I absolutely loved everything about that game so much.

I see, yeah I never played in a league nor do I know how to get in to one. I would probably lack the time anyway to train with some team at certain times.

World at War as amazing. The reason for me was because I loved Call of Duty 1 which was based in WW2. I played some Multiplayer there as well but World at War was the long hoped " upgrade " for CoD1 in my eyes that added a lot of stuff, a levelling system and so on and on... It still exist but is kind of buggy now on new systems and almost dead, some cheaters here and there.

I was really hoping for CoD: WW2 to become something decent..but in my eyes it wasn't. Just one more gender, political correctness infested shooter that I quit after playing a week or two.
