What am I doing so very, very wrong?

VOiDMiX

Recruit
Been playing for a bit now and before the recent update was up to rank 155. I can get a fairly decent number of kills but almost always have far more deaths, frequently the most in the match. Here's what it's like:

It's obvious that other players see me before I see them. They'll get 3-4 shots into me before I can even raise my gun to aim.

There's ALWAYS someone behind me somehow. I check often so here's how it goes: I'm walking along.. no one ahead of me. I turn around, no one behind me but then someone comes and kills me from the other direction. Or I'll be walking along and look to my left, no one there, look to my right, no one there - and then someone kills me from the left. All the time.

Grenades stick to you? I'll be in a room guarding a hardpoint or whatever and someone tosses in a grenade. Throwing it back has NEVER worked so I'll run into the next room but the grenade still gets me. Huh?

Other players always seem to know where I am or where I'm going because they'll throw a grenade seemingly randomly but it always kills me.

Another issue is when I'm in a room guarding something with teammates and an enemy bursts in shooting... I'm the only one that dies... meanwhile my teammates all survive and kill the enemy. Happens all the time.

I move, run and shoot far more slowly than everyone else (unless replays are sped up.) I'll watch a replay of a guy get a triple kill, throw a grenade, reload and kill 3 more enemies in 5 seconds. I've never even been in a situation where that might be possible. If I reload I die.

I see snipers hang out and get multiple kills from the same perch. If I stay anywhere for more than a 10th of a second I get taken out. Plus it seems snipers don't have to aim accurately at all... if I'm anywhere near the reticle they get me - yet I have to get someone dead center to get a kill.

I'll put a 1/2 clip of 'stopping rounds' into someone yet they survive and kill me by seemingly just glancing in my direction. I'll often see the hit marker activating and then turn red (indicating a kill right?) yet they still get me.

I was told not to run into things and take it slow so I do that but someone sneaks up behind me and goes all melee on my ass. Yest I see the top guys running all over. I'll see guys get 50 kills and 5 deaths whereas I'll never even see anywhere close to 50 enemies let alone kill them.

Am I doing something VERY wrong? How do I change all this?

i feel ur pain felt like i wrote this lol but i do feel that this game has a mix of bots n users. i feel like the bots are the ones that your unloading a full clip then he turns around - jumps - shoot n kills u with one shot n makes u feel like a fool for wasting a full clip n not even layin a scratch on him or the one that seems to know your exact location when u have ghost on and are not suppose to be detected. they some how find u and then u see in the replay how he running towards your direction n locating u without any heartbeat sensor. It also pisses me off how im camping i dont see no one left or right no one shows up for a good min then i decide to move n then someone pops up n kills me lol

Equip ghost as your second perk can help the enemy not knowing where you are as much and put silencers on all your guns is the only advice I can give for not being shot as much. Try moving around the outside of the map as well meaning you have one less direction to be shot from. Dead silence perk can help as well to protect you some from players like me who are wearing head phones and listening for foot steps.

For hard point equip EOD and run the trophey system as your field upgrade and Tune up as your third perk to get it faster. The trophey system will stop up to three pieces of equipment or launcher rounds. If any does get through it will only wound you so quickly use a stim if you think you have the time.

Slight of hand gun perk for guns will let you reload faster.

Yes snipers are busted and Activision dosn't give a damn about it. You can get killed from a single shot to the calf or just a bullet breezing by you.

I have been playing a lot of Hard core team death match recently, what this has taught me is to rely on my senses such as footsteps, other sounds and generally how the game works ... Just try and be more observant, we all know the spawning system is kinda broken in this game so here is an example of my play

"Mini map shows majority of team covering that left section, I will cautiously take the right section so in a way you will know someone will not spawn behind you"

Other few points that might help you

  • Try not to stay in one area all the time, move around
  • Always aim head height regardless of the situation, keep an eye on your cross hair placement
  • Ghost perk is a fantastic one to have
  • Dead silence perk is my friend (As we all know it sounds like all players are running around in high heels)
  • Try not to get caught up on I shot first he should be dead first (Remember guns and cross-hair placement matters)
  • Shot Grenade is my new friend recently (Try it out)
  • Sprint to fire speed is a major role in this game, Meaning - I only run when I know it's safe such as seeing a few of my team mates near by but unknown territory I am always walking aiming down site
  • Get used to the maps (In time it will come)
  • Hip fire shooting is a good thing on certain weapons (believe it or not the time it takes you to aim down site vs someone who is hip firing, they are most likely going to win that battle)
There is not much else I can think off, I know the above is making me sound a professional but I am far from it ... Just one of those games you will get frustrated and want to punch your monitor (Or is that just me ? :( ) Good luck pal

Thanks for the help and advice everyone!

Still curious as to why it seems that everyone else moves so much faster than I do...

If you're on console, there are three different sprint modes: Walking, Sprinting, and then Super Sprint.

To get sprint, double tap the R3 button. To get "Super Sprint" press the R3 button 3 times. To hold onto that sprint, hold it after the 2nd or 3rd tap.

Technically there are 4 speeds if you include moving whilst crouching, the thing to remember is that the faster you are moving the longer it takes to get your gun to ADS.

These are my tips to help you, I hope they do help.

  • note where you are getting killed if you are always or often getting killed in the same location then try to approach locations differently
  • when I started I often found myself getting killed when I was in open spaces, learn to avoid open spaces where possible
  • only look behind you when you hear something coming, a good headset with surround helps, the audio locating is not great in this game, but it does help to be aware of what you can hear
  • watch your corners
  • sometimes hip fire can work out better for you, depending on the distance and weapon, I have managed to hip fire and win with sniper rifles
  • stay with your squad, not too close and not too far, in time you will learn when you should be with them and when you should hold back or take point

I'm on an Xbox One. I know how to sprint and all that but it's not just running speed I'm referring to. When I watch replays of my deaths in many cases my opponents are doing everything super fast... aiming, turning, reloading, throwing grenades...etc. Are replays sped up?

No. Some players have their sensitivity high. Go into your options, and look for movement sensitivity. And no, this is not just PC. It's on consoles. I prefer the normal sensitivity for the time being, until I can keep up with the sensitivity.

It's not cheating. However, to really look for cheaters, you'll need to keep an eye on their actions. Like, did his gun snap to your face without really aiming at you? Did he have the advantage over you that you didn't see before? That kind of thing. For example, RPG's are supposed to kill opponents in 1 or 2 shots. Some people escaped that, without E.O.D. equipped.

So... thanks again for all the tips everyone. I'm doing ok but there is still the issue that my enemies clearly see me before I see them. I'll be creeping up to a corner and before I even get around it to see an enemy I'm dead. When I watch the replay it's clear that my enemies see me already coming around the corner when in my view I haven't gotten around it yet and can't even see them. I had a friend that is a big-time gamer come over and he said he's never seen anything like it. Could it be my system/internet settings? I'm on a wired XBox, NAT is open and I have Verizon Fios which is pretty fast.

Yeah, a lot of people are experiencing these lag spikes. I think it's a mix of lagging and someone lagswitching. Here, this is me playing before Season Three started...

And here's Season Four...

That second one is BLATANT. I don't think that's a server issue, it's more of a user issue. Each time I am close to another user, it lags. And here's GGReloaded in Season Six... (Just released today...)
