WIll CoD:AW be bigger than GTA:V?

Let's put it this way...Advanced Warfare would have to earn $2,399,600,000 ($59.99 per copy) in order to reach 40 million copies sold. GTA V has already earned somewhere around $2,000,000,000. If it reaches 50 million copies sold, then it'll be at $3 billion. If anyone here thinks that AW is going to reach those kinds of numbers as an FPS in a franchise that the general gaming community lambasts (I think without merit), then I have some invisible money to sell you.

The money is really easy to hide, though.

I remember the release day for Grand Theft Auto V here in Philly, and unless Jesus produces a game himself, I don't think any thing will top that kind of mania. Sales wise or fan wise. Hell even if it was a Jesus game I don't think it could do better. The numbers you posted make more sense of things TND. Thanks for sharing that perspective.

Call of Duty will never surpass GTA, especially with the new one, they have been around for so many years and people will always love the concept of GTA. Even though it could be a big possibility I don't think that it ever will. Also COD is really losing fans, they have a lot of unhappy fans with each title they bring out, unlike GTA who is gaining more and more of a fan base with every title. I love that Call of Duty AW is coming out for both Xbox and Playstation, I hate when they make games for only one console, like what sense does that make. That is another way to lose fan base, so at least they will have both.

There's no chance of that happening. Call of Duty is not in it's golden age anymore. Grand Theft Auto V has broken records. And I most of my friends don't know if they even care about this franchise anymore. But I think it will sell well. But there's no chance of GTA 5 being surpassed in the opening sales.

That's true but Call of Duty will certainly have a much more active online player base. I find most single player games don't keep me entertained for more than a week or two at most, it's the online aspect that extends the life of a game for me. I found with GTA V when I played it on ps3 the online was pretty bad, even a month after launch it would take ages to get into a game and the lack of players to do missions with was seriously annoying to the point that I sold the game. I might get it for PC next year if those issues have been fixed.

GTA 5 still has a very active player base. By the way, it's been about a year since GTA Online came out and it's way better! You don't see Ghosts getting press still unless it's DLC packs. But GTA 5 is having a San Andreas anniversary that's minimal but most sites report about it. GTA Online clearly is still being talked about today and has more diversity then a Call of Duty game after release. Honestly, the two can't be compared.

IMO, GTA has smarter packaging than CoD:AW. However, the latter may come close to GTA in the near future. With all these big promotions and advanced game mechanics, AW should be big sooner or later.

CoD is a small corridor as big as a shack in GTA V. In terms of FPS it's not the best to be coming out and in terms of games there's so much better coming out but everyone will still buy this because of the Call of Duty name.

I really don't think that Advanced Warfare will surpass GTA V's launch.

Call of Duty games have been losing hype over the years, and I think that after the massacre that Ghosts was, people are really skeptic about buying another Call of Duty game.

Also, GTA V had years to build up the hype, and I think that they managed the launch really nicely.

It depends on whether people are looking for a single-player focused game or a multiplayer focused game. GTA tends to have a single-player that takes dozens of hours to complete while COD games tend to have a very short single-player but a multiplayer that keeps people going for longer.

The release is going to be huge for sure. I think the biggest issue with the past COD games was that they were limited to the time frame they were set in. The futuristic setting AW is set in leaves it open to any adjustment in the future. They can update the multiplayer with literally anything and it will be generally accepted and still immersive because of the games setting.

there are too many companies that make open promises that they never intend on going through with. I have no faith in the upcoming ten, big business cares more about profit then gameplay.

I don't really think COD will be bigger than GTA V. The Grand Theft Auto games have much more to offer than a shooter game like call of duty. You can do so much more and have much more freedom to do what you want in GTA. But who knows, maybe this game will blow up and become more popular than Grand Theft Auto

I don't think it will be more popular than GTA. With the format that have where a new cod comes every year, it can't build a huge buzz. Sure, there are still a decent amount of people playing but it has been dropping off quicker every year.

Not at all it wont come even close. With all the success the franchise has seen over the years it has never done what GTA V did when it comes to record sales. And considering the fact thst COD is selling less and less each year I dont think it will stand much of a chance. Heck I think even the re release of GTA V will sell more than COD this year.
